Mozuku
I haven’t written a blog in a long time.
I wanted to write….
I want to write….
While I couldn’t write a blog,
I had an encounter with mozuku (a kind of seaweed)
Luckily I had chance to cook a mozuku dish.
And I had chance to go to eat mozuku food.
Actually, Okinawa is the top producer of mozuku in Japan.
Now is a little late in the season but still there is still fresh mozuku in grocery markets.
There are five kinds mozuku in Japan.
In Okinawa, we grow mozuku called Okinawan mozuku and it is thicker than others.
And more, even in Okinawa, there are many different mozuku farms and they have different styles of mozuku.
We eat mozuku as a vinegared dish.
Uchina tempura.
Mixing mozuku with flour to make Okinawan noodles.
Slimy…
Of course! It is mozuku!
One day, one of my nephews said that
“I want to eat mozukudon! That is one of the top items on school lunch menus for him.”
What!
What is that?
While I was a student we didn’t have that…
Maybe a nutritionist thought how to make kids eat mozuku because not many kids eat vinegared things.
I cannot stop my curiosity for cooking!
OK! My nephew!
Trust your aunty who is a little nosy…
I found their school lunch menu and it shows mozukudon!
I’m so excited to make it!
I will tell you about it in a later blog.
